The Potential of Meditative Thinking for the 21st Century
In this presentation I will suggest that the powers and potential of meditative
thinking, as developed in a range of classical Indian traditions of meditative
philosophy, have not been adequately tapped and realized. I suggest that the
continued predominance of egocentric forms of discourse have continued to eclipse
or suppress the liberating and transformative powers of the holistic and integrative
dynamics of meditative habits of mind. It is when we tap this largely unreleased
power of meditative reason for culture making on a global scale in the 21st
Century that the real potential of classical Indian thought for global cultural
evolution may be realized. I will focus on releasing this potential of classical
meditative thought for the 21st Century in addressing the urgent crises now
facing the human condition.
